By popular demand, the recipe for our most loved snickers protein smoothie has made it to our blog and yes, it's healthy!

I've carried this recipe around with me for many years now and since sharing it on Primal Living TV a few weeks back, it's become a firm favourite for customers, team members and guests. And who can blame them? A chocolatey smoothie that's tastes just like a snickers bar? Yes, please!

Thanks to its high protein content, I'd recommend consuming this smoothie straight after a workout (for muscle recovery and energy refuel) or, as a breakfast treat. It's also packed full of healthy ingredients which will ensure that you stay feeling full for longer.

So what makes this smoothie healthy compared to a sugary snicker's smoothie? Well, firstly, I've replaced the sugar with natural alternatives and secondly, believe it or not, this recipe contains no dairy milk chocolate. Instead, I've used a scoop of our Primal Whey Vanilla Protein Powder (for the sweetness) and a tablespoon of cacao powder (for the chocolate taste). Here are a few other Primal switches I've made to make this a healthier recipe:

Frozen banana

Thanks to the natural sweetness of the banana, there's no need for refined sugar! I recommend using frozen banana coins to give you that icy smoothie texture.

Natural peanut butter

Of course, a Snicker's smoothie wouldn't be right without peanuts but, as we all know, the traditional Snicker's chocolate bar is packed full of sugar. So, to create that much-loved peanut taste (and texture), I've used a tablespoon of natural peanut butter.

Peanuts are great for weight management as they leave you feeling fuller for longer and also help in the management of blood sugar levels.

Primal Vanilla Whey Protein Powder

The added addition of our Primal Vanilla Protein Powder not only gives us a boost of essential protein (22g to be precise), but it works with the banana and brings a natural sweetness to the smoothie.

Protein contributes to a growth in muscle mass and the maintenance of muscle mass and of normal bones.

Cacao powder

Cacao is a delicious ingredient to this recipe which provides the smoothie with a deep chocolate taste. Not only that, but it also comes with many health benefits including decreased inflammation, improved heart and brain health, blood sugar and weight control and healthy teeth and skin.

Almond milk

A perfectly healthy dairy-free option that's packed full of more health benefits. If you'd like to make your own almond milk at home, then give our homemade almond milk video a watch!

Thanks to our Slender Blender, all you need to do is pop the ingredients into the blender itself and whizz until you have a delicious smoothie texture.

2 frozen bananas (already cut into coins) OR 1 cup ice cubes

3 cups of almond milk

1 tbsp cacao powder

1-2 tbsp peanut butter

1-2 pitted dates (optional)

1 tsp crushed peanuts

30g Primal Living's vanilla protein powder

Pop all of your ingredients into a blender (we highly recommend our Slender Blender), and whizz until blended!

Our Slender Blender also means that you don't have to pour your smoothie into a glass. Simply screw it's drinkable lid on top and enjoy!
