With Christmas just around the corner you may be wondering how go about your Primal lifestyle and my one word of advice would be to enjoy yourself. If that means going off track for a few days then so be it! However, I do like to make a conscious effort to consume Primal foods when possible over the festive period. Such as making sure all my food is still organic.

With this dish I’ve taken the traditional Christmas sprouts and bumped them up a little to not only make them more appealing, but to create a delicious Christmas dinner that can also be Primal friendly, too.

I love sprouts and they’re packed full of incredible vitamins and minerals. If cooked properly (not overly done), your body will love you for their consumption. Sprouts are actually a family of sprouted plants and when you sprout foods, you increase the proteolytic enzymes. These make the digestion of both carbohydrates and proteins a lot easier. These proteolytic enzymes that are increased over time, then force your body to make them and after a while, and regular consumption, your body will be able to produce the right enzymes to fight off diseases.

Other benefits of sprouts include:

  • Easier digestion
  • Boosts your metabolism
  • Provide plenty of antioxidants
  • Help fight cancer and heart disease
  • Alkalises the body
  • One cup provides you with your daily vitamin C and vitamin K requirements

Due to their many health benefits and their low calorie value, I believe sprouts should be at the top of your vegetable list and if they don’t quite rock your boat then this recipe is perfect for you as it’s a little different. My cranberry sprouts with sweet and salted roasted nuts recipe will definitely be a hit on the Christmas dinner table this year. This dish manages to take away the strong taste of the sprouts and instead, creates a lovely sweet and salty flavour that works wonderfully well with the cranberries – another Christmas must!

As well as it’s flavour, another thing that I love about this recipe is how incredibly easy it is to make. All you need is a roasting pan and the required ingredients and then all you have to do is shake the ingredients together in the pan and pop it in the oven to roast for 30-40 minutes. Making your Christmas dinner preparations a little bit easier!

So with that said, enjoy this recipe, enjoy your Christmas holiday and more importantly, enjoy yourself! Every now and then it’s ok not to live a Primal lifestyle and this time is one of them. Just make sure you get back on it once the holiday’s are over!
