Citrulline Malate is an amino acid compound which helps to reduce fatigue during intense exercise, improving performance in both anaerobic and aerobic training. Often used in pre-workout supplements, Citrulline Malate assists the production of Nitric Oxide, aiding blood flow and glucose intake, whilst also maximising oxygen intake during mitochondrial respiration.

Increased blood flow from Nitric Oxide means nutrients are delivered faster and waste products are cleared from the muscles. Muscular function is improved as a result and fatigue is reduced.

Citrulline Malate works to postpone the reduction in muscle pH that occurs during exercise. So typically speaking, as pH levels drop and the muscle becomes more acidic, fatigue sets in; Citrulline Malate helps to stop this from happening. Muscular soreness is also less prevalent as a result.

There is also evidence to suggest Citrulline alone can inhibit the body’s immunosuppressive response mechanisms to intense exercise. Meaning, it helps the muscles to heal and the effect of high intensity training on our body’s immune system is less destructive.
