How To Lose Weight The Healthy Way In 2020

At Primal, we don’t believe in crash diets. To put it simply, they don’t offer long-term results – no matter how quickly you lose weight in a week. Instead, we believe in sustainable weight loss that’s maintainable, achievable and more importantly, enjoyable.

With the start of a brand new year, there’s no better time than the present to start adapting to a Primal lifestyle to help you lose weight the healthy way.

But besides eating healthier and moving more, what else can you do to achieve your weight loss goals in 2020?

Set smart goals

Whilst weight loss may be your main goal for the beginning of the New Year, we're suggesting that you look at it a little bit differently.

Instead of tying your goals to weight loss alone, try and focus on actionable habits instead. These can be anything from hitting the gym four times a week to increasing your step goal from 8K to 10K a day. You see, when you incorporate healthier actions into your daily routine, you'll start to see a difference in your attitude and motivation as they slowly become a part of your lifestyle. 

Don’t count calories

Another thing we don't believe in at Primal Living: counting calories. Instead, we like to focus on the quality of the foods we eat.

Every five or six years, we almost become an entirely new person. Our skin is constantly dying and being replaced, our lungs are replaced every six weeks, our liver in less than six months and our 9000 taste buds are rejuvenated every 10 days. All of this replacing, regenerating and rejuvenating is fuelled by one thing and one thing only, what we consume. Hence the saying, ‘we are what we eat’.

Therefore, if we eat junk food, our new body parts will be created by junk and will not be quite as good as the cells they are replacing. That’s what causes ageing. Rubbish input equals rubbish output. However, if we eat the right foods, drink enough water and get the right nutrients, then our body will start to love us for it and at the same time, it will help to delay the ageing process.

But what happens when we count calories? We can often end up restricting our bodies of the right foods because we're far more concerned about the numbers instead of the quality.

This year, spend more time educating yourself (read The Primal Cure) and less time focusing on how many calories you have left for the day. Believe us, it's exhausting.

Don’t make strict restrictions

As much as we encourage you to eat as healthy as you can, we're also aware that you're only human.

The moment you tell yourself that you "can't" have a particular food, the moment you'll start craving it even more. And once you get into a vicious circle of cravings, you'll find it hard to get out of.

Our advice? Be reasonable and consume a Primal diet 80-90% of the time (or whatever works for you), and then let yourself relax a little when you truly need to. 

Move more

It's not rocket science really. In order to lose weight, you need to eat healthily and move more.

Picking a physical activity to keep your fitness levels up and movement going is one of the most important things you can do for your weight loss journey this year. Not only is it the key to consistent motivation, but it's the one thing that will allow you to enjoy the process.

Eat a varied diet

It goes without saying that a diet high in processed foods and sugars is highly unlikely to help you towards your weight loss goals. In fact, what you put in your mouth is more important than what you do in the gym. How does the saying go? You can't out-exercise a bad diet!

While eating a varied diet is important for losing weight, it's also extremely important for our health and energy levels - both of which are needed to lose weight in a healthy and positive way. 

Lastly, our bodies - which are pretty marvellous machines - are in a constate state of continual repair, rebuild and replace, and when we consume a diet high in vitamins and nutrients, you support this process by enabling your body to work the way it's supposed to.
