Glucomannan, also known as Konjac, is an asian herb and is known for it’s starchy corm that grows underground. The corm found in glucomannan is used as a source of soluble dietary fibre.

Nowadays, glucomnnan is widely known and used as a dietary supplement to aid in weight loss and the management of cholesterol levels. The fibre from the konjac root has the ability to inhibit absorption of glucose and can also aid as a strong laxative. However, whilst glucomannan is well-tolerated if consumed correctly, some people may experience some side effects which cause digestive issues, although this is most common to those who over use glucomannan.

  • Noodles
  • Konjac powder

You’ll find that glucomannan (konjac) is also available as a food product – particularly as noodles.  My favourite one’s to use are the zero calorie konjac shirataki noodles (which you can purchase here). They’re gluten free, grain free (before you were going to ask why I’m recommending noodles) and are CARB free.

You can also get konjac as a powder powder and this can be mixed with water and pickling lime in order to make konjac noodles from scratch – sounds complicated but really it isn’t! You can find that from the same site as stated above.
