A recent "real-life" clinical data published on probiotic strain, Lactobacillus plantarum 299v, shows promising benefits for those who suffer from IBS. The study showed convincing results on significant improvement when it comes to controlling measures of IBS, such as abdominal pain, diarrhoea, constipation and excessive gas.

The probiotic strain itself, also known as LP299V has been tried and trusted for more than 30 years and it is one of the many reasons why we've included it in our Primal Living Probiotic formula.

The study itself was performed in Germany by Microbiotica (a life-longer partner of our probiotic supplier). The study included 221 patients with IBS, whom of which were given a daily dose of 10 billion CFU of LP299V (1 capsule daily) for a maximum of 12 weeks. During the study, participants answered questions regarding their overall health and wellbeing, as well as their IBS symptoms.

The results were quite simply wonderful. Not only did they show significant improvements in measures of IBS, but quality of every-day life and mental wellbeing for the participants improved too. Abdominal pain, diarrhoea, excessive gas and constipation are all key symptoms that were said to have improved. Self-assessment identified that long-term treatment with LP299V was tolerated well by 94% of patients.

This means that those with IBS (and similar symptoms) may benefit by taking the LP299V strain which is included in our Primal Living probiotics. More importantly, the recent data gives customers (and those considering probiotics) some well needed evidence that this particular strain can be trusted when it comes to taking care of your gut health.
