The Best Vitamins for Women Over 40

When it comes to vitamins, men and women both have different needs. Women over 40, in particular, will require specific vitamins to help them stay fit and healthy.

We understand that you want to be in the best condition as possible, which is why we've put together a few important vitamins that women over the age of 40 should be taking...

Best Vitamins for Women over 40

Of course, you want to grab as many nutrients as you can from all of your favourite foods. A healthy diet that includes a variety of foods - including healthy fats - can help support the health and wellbeing of women over the age of 40.

We all need to get in our vitamins and minerals daily, but our ability to absorb them efficiently and the amounts we need will differ from person to person. That's why taking certain supplements can be your best insurance policy for ensuring you’re getting every single vitamin and mineral your body needs each day.

Multiwoman Multivitamin

No matter what your daily routine is like, we think it’s important to eat the right foods, manage stress better, get quality sleep, walk more and take a multivitamin each day – all of these combined we believe will help you live healthier, happier and longer lives.

Our Multiwoman, previously known as Women 40+, has been nutritionally tailored to help you get the most out of each day. And to help keep skin looking healthy, we've included ingredients such as biotin, iodine, niacin, vitamin A & B2, as well as zinc & selenium to help contribute towards healthy nails.

Our formula also includes copper (at 100% of the NRV) which furthermore contributes to both healthy skin and aids hair pigmentation.

But that's not just it! We've also enhanced Multiwoman with extracts of bamboo, grape seed and bilberry. Bamboo provides a natural source of silica that we find in our skin, hair, nails, bones, tendons, liver and kidneys.

Menosupport Multivitamin

The menopause actually refers to 1 day in a woman’s lifetime. Women have technically gone through the menopause once they have experienced 12 months with no menstrual period (in the absence of any medication or surgery that could have caused it). The time leading up to this is known as peri-menopause, and the time after this is when women are postmenopausal, which can happen to many women as early as 40+.

Nutrition and health becomes incredibly important at this stage in life. We believe the best way of doing this is by eating a healthy diet first and foremost, but also by taking a multivitamin you know that you’re definitely getting everything you need before the day has even begun.

So that’s why we worked with our nutritional development team to formulate a supplement especially for women who have gone through the menopause and are looking for ways to support their hormonal, mental and physical changes.

Our Menosupport supplement focuses a little more heavily on supporting possible hormonal imbalances some women may experience after going through the menopause (750% Vitamin B6), as well as normal psychological function (1000% Vitamin B1) and normal mental performance (500% Vitamin B5).

Vitamin D3

Besides helping the body absorb calcium, vitamin D is important to other bodily processes too, such as moving your muscles, carrying messages between your brain and body, and helping the immune system defend against pesky bacteria and viruses - all of which are important as you get older.

It’s a widely known fact that Vitamin D is synthesised in your skin in response to sunlight, and since we’re in the UK, unfortunately, we don’t get a whole lot of sunshine day to day.

In  our Founder's book, Fat & Furious, we talk in depth about how we all need to get out more, in order to absorb some sun rays and let our bodies synthesise Vitamin D. But when  it’s not sunny outside, it might be time to top up your Vitamin D levels with our powerful Vitamin D3 supplement.

Calcium

We spoke about the importance of calcium for men over the ages of 60 in our latest blog post, and it's also the case for women too. Believe us when we say calcium becomes increasingly important as we age. It's incredibly important because it helps to keep our bones strong and healthy, as well as maintaining our heart, muscles, and nerves. It's also great for our blood vessels as it transports blood throughout the body.

We suggest taking calcium in conjunction with vitamin D—the body needs vitamin D in order to form calcitriol, the hormone responsible for calcium absorption. Without it, your body will experience a calcium shortage.

Magnesium

Magnesium is not only amazing for our muscles and muscle relaxation, but it's also essential for healthy bones, teeth and the nervous system.

Also, as we get older, our immune system tends to slow down and as a result, you're more prone to feeling tired and fatigued. Fear not, however, as magnesium has the benefits of reducing tiredness and fatigue. If you're finding yourself feeling drowsy during the day then taking a magnesium supplement could help you get a better night's sleep.

Unlike many brands out there, our Magnesium supplement has been formulated from high potency Bisglycinate - Magnesium in its most highly bioavailable form to maximise absorption!

Unlike when it’s formulated from Oxide, our Bisglycinate formula impacts the body quickly and effectively. Also, like all of our other primal supplements, it is 100% natural and free from anything artificial.

Omega 3 for women over 40

Omega 3 & Vitamin E

Omega 3 fish oil contains EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) and DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid) which are both essential nutrients your body needs for so many different reasons.

DHA is particularly important to us as human beings, as this remarkable fatty acid is a primary structural component of the human brain... Hence why they call Omega 3 'food for the brain'.

Omega 3 is naturally found in fish oil and there are two main ingredients (EFA’s). EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docohexaenoic acid) are essential fatty acids, both of which the human body cannot produce itself.

This means the only way to get this vital nutrition is through our diet which many of us are lacking thanks to processed foods or poor diet choices. As it is naturally found in fish oil, it becomes difficult to get from what you would normally eat alone.

Hair, Skin and Nails

As we get older our hair, skin and nails may need a little extra TLC. At Primal Cure, we've assembled 20 powerful extracts, minerals and vitamins for healthier hair, skin and nails. Biotin, Copper, Iodine, Vitamin A, Riboflavin and Zinc are all attributed with the maintenance of normal skin.

Our hair needs a variety of nutrients to encourage growth and stay healthy. Biotin (Vitamin B7) is known in the hairdressing trade as Vitamin H; hence the synthetic versions in shampoos and conditioners... It’s so important, our product is formulated with 200% of the NRV.

Copper is another mineral known to contribute to normal hair pigmentation, so again: 200% of the NRV. For healthy nails, we've added Zinc and Selenium.

If our Primal Hair, Skin and Nails supplement sounds like it could solve all your beauty problems, then grab a tub here!

Vitamin B Complex for women over 40

Vitamin B6 Complex

B vitamins are incredible for all ages. In fact, they're so incredible that they're involved in more bodily functions than most other nutrients. Which is why we've created our own complex containing all 8 essential B vitamins: B3, B5, B6 B1, B12, B2, B9 and B7.

B6 is especially important for women over 40. Whether you suffer from mood swings, PMS or unbalanced hormones, vitamin B6 can help contribute to the regulation of hormonal activity and to the normal psychological function. It’s a vitamin we should all be getting in our diets, however with modern diets becoming less and less nutritionally dense, it’s likely that some of us are not getting enough day-to-day.

If you find yourself suffering from the following: skin rashes, tiredness and mood changes, then it may be your body's way of telling you that you're suffering from a vitamin B6 deficiency.

It’s also been said that taking a Vitamin B6 supplement during menopause can be beneficial for helping with mood swings too.

B vitamins are known for their contribution to support energy and metabolism and combined, target several crucial functions in the body - which is especially important as we age. B12, also known as cyanocobalamin, contributes to the functioning of the nervous system and the immune system, and help reduce the feeling of tiredness and fatigue.

Probiotic 6 Billion CFU

Unfortunately, as we get older, our digestive system may start to cause a little havoc. Unexpected gas, upset stomach, bloating, low fatigue and indigestion (to name a few), may all sound a little familiar and if so, a high strength probiotic may be the answer to your gut problems.

The above are just a few symptoms of bad gut health, and so many of us out there suffer from this – almost to the point where we’ve accepted it as a part of our daily lives.

However, it’s so important not to underestimate the importance of a healthy gut, it’s what helps us to digest food properly, maintain a healthy immune system and so much more. What’s more, these symptoms can almost always be easily rectified by balancing your gut flora, and one easy way to do this is by taking a powerful probiotic supplement such as ours.

There are so many different types of probiotics out there, it can be hard to know what to go for – let alone stick to having them every day. That’s where our Primal probiotic comes in, as our unique blend contains 12 heavily researched strands.

This formula was created by our brilliant Nutritional Product Development team and our founder Steve was involved in the entire process to ensure that it’s the best, most powerful probiotic we could give you and your loved ones.

Your gut flora is highly sensitive to your diet, and studies show that if it becomes unbalanced it can be linked to numerous diseases. Our probiotics can help correct this balance by ensuring that there are enough good bacteria in the gut to help restore digestive health and keep you and your family’s immune system in good working order.

Our powerful probiotic contains 6 BILLION  colony forming units that get transported to your gut via BIO-tract technology. Our patented probiotic tablets deliver up to 15 times more friendly bacteria to your intestines than capsules, powders or probiotic drinks.

The only company we found that could make such a powerful Probiotic was in the USA, so this one of very few products not created in the UK. Interested? Grab a pot here!

  • Hi Christie,

May we ask what time of the day you take your supplement, please? It might be worth taking omega 3 on a full stomach. Most of the time, many people experience stomach problems when taking supplements on an empty stomach.

    Many thanks,
    The Primal Team

  • Hi, I have tried a few times now to take the Omega 3 supplement as an extra boost however everytime I take it on its own I get terrible stomach pains.

Is there anything I can do to prevent this? as my illness would definitely be helped by the effects of taking this as a boost upon the normal 40+ vitamins that I take.

    C Christie
