Now that we have a Primal friendly shampoo recipe, I think it’s also important to give you all a nourishing and moisturising conditioner recipe that’s also Primal friendly.
This is a great recipe that can be used as a follow up moisturiser after using the shampoo. You may find you’ll hair (depending on it’s type) will be needing a little moisturise at first whilst it get’s used to the change of haircare.
Like shampoo, conditioner is filled with plenty of toxins and other harmful ingredients. I stated in the shampoo recipe post that unfortuentely, you will not find one single shampoo product on the shop shelfs that is 100% natural and the same goes for conditioner, too. This is because 100% natural conditioners rely on ingredients like plant oils and butters but because these are very oily, we need to use them before using our Primal shampoo recipe. Otherwise, the hair will be limp, oily and quite greasy from the natural products. Think of it as a pre-conditioner.
The xanthan gum called for in this recipe is also quite crucial as it creates that thick and creamy texture required for a conditioner. You may have not heard of xanthan gum before but it’s quite easy to find in your local supermarket. It’s often found in the ‘free from’ section!
We all should know by now as well, just how nourishing avocado can be for us. Which is exactly why I’ve used the oil’s from an avocado in this recipe. The monounsaturated fatty acid content found in avocado oil is even higher than extra virgin olive oil, which is why it’s so incredibly nourishing and healthy for your hair.
Many people’s hair is dry, damaged, weak from the toxins found in haircare products. The monounsaturated fats, when applied directly to the hair, can moisturize, nourish and strengthen hair strands, improving the way they look and protecting them from damage.
This recipe is incredibly easy to make and it’s pretty effective too. I’ve trialled this on many friends (and myself) and all have loved the results the conditioner provides. In fact, some people couldn’t even tell the difference! Simply start your haircare routine with the conditioner, as I said above – think of it as a ‘pre-conditioner’, rub it on the ends of your hair, leave for a minute and then rinse out thoroughly and follow through with your Primal shampoo recipe.
So just like the toxin filled shampoo bottles, it’s time to ditch the conditioner too. Not only will your hair thank you for it but your body will too!
Primal moisturising conditioner
- 200 ml organic coconut milk
- 1 tbsp aloe vera juice
- 1 tbsp avocado oil
- 3 tbsp xanthan gum
- 1 cup water
In a mixing bowl add all your ingredients and whisk together for 2-3 minutes until you no longer have any lumps.
Once mixed, pour your conditioner mixture into a jar and seal tightly.
